Overview of The Superior Court of California, County of Stanislaus
The Superior Court of California, County of Stanislaus is the 16th-largest court statewide.
We have 26 authorized judicial positions (23 Judges and 3 Commissioners). Statewide, there are 7 justices on the Supreme Court, 105 justices in the Courts of Appeal, and approximately 2,175 judges, commissioners, referees, assigned judges, and temporary judges in the trial courts. We have an approximate $41 million budget and approximately 260 employees. Our operating budget is State-supported while the Judicial Council of the State of California is responsible for the maintenance and support of facilities. We receive, on average, approximately 65,000 filings per year.
In January 2001 the Court separated from the County due to the passage of SB2140 legislation. Prior to this legislation, all Court staff, with the exception of the judges, were County employees. Following this legislation, employees of the Court are now considered Trial Court Employees.
This Court and its administrators are actively involved with the local community, the California Legislature, other county departments, especially those involved directly with the civil, criminal and juvenile justice system, and on committees established by the Judicial Council of California, including the Trial Court Presiding Judges Advisory Committee and the Court Executives Advisory Committee.
The Court is also involved on a national level with the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) and the National Association of Court Managers (NACM).
